"Good Masons make good churchmen. Every clergyman can testify to the truth of this.  They make loyal and sacrificing patriots. Our colonial history supplies the proof of this assertion.  All Masons are not ardent church members but neither are all church members ardent for the church.  Yet the proof is clearly and abundantly evident that the Masonic fraternity is an influence for good in personal and community life.

Freemasonry is not a religion. It has never claimed to be, and has always corrected those of the Brotherhood who un-thoughtfully would say 'Freemasonry is my religion.'  Freemasonry has always been a friend and ally of religion.   Religious people have found a congenial fellowship within the Lodge and have not been embarrassed by what takes place there.  In many respects, Freemasonry may be called a religious institution owing its 'origin and morality to the religious element.' But this is something different from being a religion.  A hospital can be a religious institution but not a religion."

Methodist Bishop of Philadelphia and
President of the World Methodist Council

"The secret of Masonry, like the secret of life, can be known only by those who seek it, serve it, live it.  It cannot be uttered; it can only be felt and acted.  It is, in fact, an open secret, and each man knows it according to his quest and capacity.  Like all things worth knowing, no one can know it for another and no man can know it alone."

Dr. Joseph Fort Newton

Greetings from the EAST

Brethren,

The sweet sounds of September are once again upon us. Fall is finally here. The leaves are changing, the day is shorter, and the weather is getting a bit cooler. Change is in the air.

Speaking of change, as a nation, we have a very important election coming up in November. While this is not a political forum, I just want everyone to ensure that they vote. It is our right to do so.

Believe it or not, that very same month – November – we will be holding our Annual Election of Officers. I hope to see everyone in Lodge PRIOR to this meeting. If you haven’t been in a while, come and see us. I am positive that you will be pleasantly surprised with everything that has been happening in and around the Lodge. There are many new Brothers, and we would all like to see some more friendly faces and enjoy their fellowship.

I would like to Thank all of the Brothers and their ladies for their help this year. In particular the help that we have received with the Child ID Program. We had a successful program on Oct 4 at the Taylor Eagles, and we will be sponsoring another on Oct 18 in conjunction with the Inkster Crime Prevention Unit at the Inkster Community Center.

On Sunday October 26, we will be holding a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for the niece of Br Bruce Ball. She and her husband were in an motorcycle accident. Thankfully, they are recovering fairly well, but are still in a bit of need. Please come down and show your support. Dinner starts at 4:30 pm - $8 for adults and $5 for the kids.

When we help each other things get done.
                                                                            George K. Graham Jr. W.M.

Writings from the WEST

Brother's Family and Friends

Summer has gone and fall is upon us, and it's time to get back to work. We have new brothers coming in and young brothers continuing to grow and learn, we have also lost a few brothers and we pray and grieve for them and their families.

We had a good turn out, and a good time at our picnic this year. Hope everyone had fun.

In closing, we have only a short period of time left in this year so let’s make the best of it.

Until next month

fraternally yours

Brother Russ Ouellette, SW
salutations from the SOUTH

Greetings Brothers,

Things sure have been busy here at Golden Ark. Our MM dinner is scheduled for Monday October 27. Dinner will follow the first section. Please be sure to RSVP as soon as possible, since I need to have totals in to the caterer at least 4 days prior.

Secretary Scribbles

Brothers, Family, and Friends,

Greetings! I hope that this message finds you well! Fall is finally upon us. The leaves are changing, Dusk seems to come earlier, and there is a bit of a chill in the air in the evening. Perfect time to sit by the fire, and tell a few stories. I hope that each of you take some time to enjoy this season change with your Loved ones – I know that I will.

Sadly, I must report that we had to suspend 27 brothers for non-payment of dues. It is my hope that these brothers will reconsider their decision, and petition for reinstatement. I also hope that each of you know that if, in the future, a situation arises that may keep you from paying your dues, you can contact the Lodge and explain the situation. Remember that we are all Brothers, and we have all agreed to help one another.

On Sunday, October 26th, we will be hosting a benefit dinner for the niece of Br. Bruce Ball, who was in a motorcycle accident earlier this year. Both her and her husband lost limbs as a result of this accident, and are now in need of some home modifications, as well as a few other things. Please come down and join us for a spaghetti dinner from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Brethren, there is still a need for supplies, and Library materials. We currently have about 30 books and tapes available for loan to our members. Please contact me for a list if you are interested. We also have a few older books that we cannot lend out, but we are more than happy to share these at the Lodge. Remember, if you have some books, pamphlets, and/or papers regarding Masonry, that you would like to share with others, we welcome the contributions to further our education.

A few months ago, I posed a question to all of the “retirees”, about getting together once a week or so. To date, I have not received a response. Rather than give up, I will leave the option open for another month or so. This is open to those working afternoons/evenings also. I believe that the added/extra fellowship can, and will, be good for everyone involved.

Until next month

John R Miller

MASONRY'S TEN COMMANDMENTS

1. God is the Eternal, Omnipotent, Immutable Wisdom and Supreme Intelligence and Exhaustive Love. Thou shall adore, revere, and love him! Thou shall honor him by practicing the virtues!

2. Thy religion shall be, to do good because it is a pleasure to thee, and not merely because it is duty. That thou may become the friend of the wise man, thou shall obey his precepts!

3. Thou shall unceasingly war against vice! Thou shall not do harm unto others that which thou wouldst not wish them do unto thee! Thou shall be submissive to thy fortunes, and keep burning the light of wisdom!

4. Thou shall honor thy parents! Thou shall pay respect and homage to the aged! Thou shall instruct the young! Thou shall protect and defend infancy and innocence!

5. Thou shall cherish thy wife and thy children! Thou shall love country, and obey its laws!

6. Thy friend shall be to thee a second self! Misfortune shall not estrange thee from him! Thou shall do for his memory whatever thou wouldst do for him, if he were living!

7. Thou shall avoid and flee from insincere friendships! Thou shall in everything refrain from excess. Thou shall fear to be the cause of a stain on thy memory.

8. Thou shall allow no passions to become thy master! Thou shall make the passions of others profitable lessons to thyself! Thou shall be indulgent to error!

9. Thou shall hear much: Thou shall speak little: Thou shall act well! Thou shall forget injuries! Thou shall render good for evil! Thou shall not misuse either thy strength or thy superiority!

10. Thou shall study to know men; that thereby thou may learn to know thyself! Thou shall ever to seek after virtue! Thou shall be just! Thou shall avoid idleness!

But the great commandment of Masonry is this: "A new commandment give I unto you: that ye love one another! He that said he is in the light, and hates his brother, remains still in the darkness.

"SUCH ARE THE MORAL DUTIES OF A MASON .............. Albert Pike, 1871.
