is Masonry? A generally accepted
definition is “Freemasonry is an organized society of men, symbolically
applying the principles of Operative Masonry and architecture to the science
and art of character building.” The working tools and methods of the ancient
craftsman are used to help portray fundamental truths. As an example, let
us look at the working tools of the Entered Apprentice, the 24-inch gauge and
common gavel. These were used by the operative mason to measure lengths,
widths and heights and to break off the corners of rough stones, but a
speculative Mason is taught to use these to manage his time and to remove the
roughness from his character, thus making him a better person. |
MESSAGE
FROM THE EAST Brethren, Family and Friends, I hope this letter finds everyone in good health,
and those who are under the weather, I hope you feel better soon. This year
is just flying by, and that is because of all the work we are doing. We are
very fortunate to have all these candidates interested in becoming a part of
our great organization, and petitioning OUR lodge. At this point we have work
through June, and hearing from other lodges this is a great thing. Grand Lodge is right around the corner, and that is
going to change a couple of our degree nights. We will be having our regular
business meeting AND E.A. degree both on the 1st Monday MAY 7th opening at
7:00 pm. The 2nd Monday MAY 14th we will be having our F.C. degree opening at
6:30 pm. The 3rd Monday MAY 21st we will be dark so we can attend the GRAND
LODGE proceedings. The last Monday MAY 28th will be our Master Mason degree
opening at 6:00 pm. We should have 2 candidates for all the degrees. Monday MAY 7th we will be wearing our tuxedo’s
because we will be doing our E.A. degree immediately following our regular
business meeting. We had our monthly breakfast, and again we had a
great turnout. Thank you to everyone who attended. We had 85 people this
month and 89 people last month. I would like to thank everyone who helped,
without all my brothers and their wives, and my wife, this would be an
impossible task that I could not do on my own. I would also like to thank 2
of my stewards who really put forth a tremendous amount of effort, Bro. Jim
Thomas and Bro. Jason Graham, thank you for all your hard work. I am still
waiting for other estimates to compare prices. We may have to look into other
avenues to raise money, because income is coming slow. I will not stop until
we get our lights in the parking lot, so bare with me and it will happen. If
anybody has any suggestions for raising money, please feel free to let me
know. Also if anyone would like to donate to our parking lot lighting fund
raiser, please send all donations to: GOLDEN ARK LODGE NO. 595, F&AM PO
BOX 1281 TAYLOR MI. 48180-1281 C/O WILLIAM CLAWSON W.M. and please indicate
that it is for the lighting fund raiser. Our
next breakfast will be Sunday MAY 13th
Mother’s day Fraternally Yours, William J. Clawson Worshipful Master TIDINGS FROM THE WEST Hele
Brothers, Unfortunately,
due to my work constraints, I have not been able to attend every meeting.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding. May is
turning out to be another busy month for us. I am happy to see that everyone
has been studying their ritual and it shows. Keep up the good work! Stay busy,
Stay involved. Sincerely
and fraternally Brother
George Graham Senior Warden GREETINGS FROM THESOUTH Brothers, Happy Spring! Hope that everyone is doing well. I would like to thank all of those who have been
bringing a dish to pass. This month we will have an EA degree after our
Regular communication, but we will still have a pot luck. Please contact me
and let me know what you will be bringing. This Month’s MM dinner is still in the works. I
will update everyone as soon as I have all of the details. This years’ Annual Lodge Picnic is scheduled for
August 18th at Until next month Fraternally Yours Brother Russell Ouellette Jr Junior Warden ___________________________________________________________________________ Surely
you've heard all about the "Secrets" of Freemasonry. Here's
something from the "It really isn't "secretive," although it sometimes has that reputation. Masons certainly don't make a secret of the fact that they are members of the fraternity. We wear rings, lapel pins, and tie clasps with Masonic emblems like the Square and Compasses, the best known of Masonic signs which, logically, recall the fraternity's early symbolic roots in stonemasonry. Masonic buildings are clearly marked, and are usually listed in the phone book. Lodge activities are not secret--picnics and other events are even listed in the newspapers, especially in smaller towns. Many lodges have answering machines which give the upcoming lodge activities. But there are some Masonic secrets, and they fall into two categories. The first are the ways in which a man can identify himself as a Mason--grips and passwords. We keep those private for obvious reasons. It is not at all unknown for unscrupulous people to try to pass themselves off as Masons in order to get assistance under false pretenses. The second group is harder to describe, but they are the ones Masons usually mean if we talk about "Masonic secrets." They are secrets because they literally can't be talked about, can't be put into words. They are the changes that happen to a man when he really accepts responsibility for his own life and, at the same time, truly decides that his real happiness is helping others. It's a wonderful feeling, but it's something you simply can't explain to another person. That's why we sometimes say that Masonic secrets cannot (rather than "may not") be told. Try telling someone exactly what you feel when you see a beautiful sunset, or when you hear music, like the national anthem, which suddenly stirs old memories, and you'll understand what we mean. "Secret societies" became very popular in Letter From The Secretary Brothers,
Family and Friends, Greetings one and all! Happy
Mother’s Day to all of the wives/significant others! It’s hard to believe
that this year is almost half over, and there is still so much to do. There are still 50 brothers
owing dues. At the end of this month, their names will be turned over to the
Delinquent Dues Committee for further action.
Please avoid this by getting your dues in to me as soon as possible.
Along with that, I have been getting numerous notices from the U.S. Postal
service in regards to undeliverable and/or forwarded mail. Please help us to
avoid any added costs by sending an updated address and telephone number
if/when you move. We have made some changes to our
web site. Please visit, and feel free to leave a comment and sign the guest
book. Let us know what you think. Your feedback only helps us improve. As some of you are aware, I was
diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease a few years ago, and Lymphoma late last
year. Things have been a bit rough over the past few months with the stress
generated at my job, and the PD has taken a toll on my daily activities. I
started treatments a few months ago for the Lymphoma, and, Thank GOD, it has
gone into remission. I want to take
this opportunity to thank all of those who have been there to help me through
some of the tougher days, give an encouraging word of support, lend a hand,
listen while I complain, etc.. These Brothers, Wives, Family, and Friends
have all, once again, proven to me that this Fraternity is made up of the
Greatest People that God put on this Earth. I cannot express my Thanks
enough, and I only hope that I will be able to do the same for all of you.
Thank you Again. Until
Next Month John
