A Note from The Trestle- Board Committee

With the ever increasing cost of preparing, printing, folding, and mailing this communication, it has become necessary for us to evaluate how this is done. In the past, the Secretary would spend the time preparing, printing, and folding at the Lodge, but as times change, we started to use an outside printer to make the copies. This service has become too unreliable, as well as expensive. The last couple issues were printed and prepared at the Lodge, and although this does save us some expense, the cost of paper, ink, and labels has gone up. This has made us realize that we need to do something. It is the suggestion of the committee that we start to sell ad space within this letter, to help defray the rising costs.

We need your feedback! Please drop us a note or see one of us at Lodge, and let us know what you think. You can e-mail us at taylormasonic@yahoo.com

Greetings from the EAST

Brethren, Family, and Friends

Spring is here, and with it comes warmer temps and new beginnings.

Congratulations go out to all of our newly raised Brothers - welcome to our fraternity. I hope you get involved and come to lodge as often as possible.

Also, I would like to see brothers come back to lodge that have not been in a while for whatever reason. If any brother has a problem in this lodge, no matter how big or small, I want everyone to know they can come to me. Remember, if I don’t know about it, I can’t help to fix it.

We have a few new things in the works for this year, starting with; In May I want to have a Mothers/Wife/girlfriend appreciation dinner, In July a fireworks/Summer celebration at the Lodge when Taylor has their fireworks ( BBQ, Games, ect.) during the day and the fireworks in the evening

Along with my Entertainment Committee we are working out the details, We will let everyone know when we do.

Special thanks to WB. Kevin Dobbins and Family for another successful St. Patty's Day dinner

We are in the process of setting up a trip to the Masonic Home (Pathways) in Alma, and also to do a tour of the Masonic Temple Downtown. All interested in either event let us know.

Until Next Month

Fraternally,

Russell D Ouellette WM

Writings from the WEST

Brethren, Family and Friends

Happy Easter!! Spring is finally here! I’m sure that all of us are happy to get that bitter cold weather behind us. Now we can all get ready to face the humidity and heat. Gotta Love Michigan Weather!

There are lots of things happening in Masonry. Not only here at Golden Ark, but all over the Downriver and Southeastern Michigan regions. On 30/MAR/09, district 50 will be holding our annual Lodge of Instruction. Our Grand Lecturer, RWB Eddie Steffne, is scheduled to be there to help with the instruction. On 04/APR/09, Golden Ark will hold our annual Mason Of The Year Celebration. (Thank you all, once again, for bestowing me with this honor). 06/APR/09 will be our Regular Communication, and there is a rumor that plans for a special family event will be brought up for discussion. We have scheduled a Lodge Clean-up for 13/APR/09 through 16/APR/09. We will be washing, cleaning, painting, etc., in preparation for the summer months. On 20/APR/09, there will be a SW Dinner at Wayne Lodge – EA Degree starting at 5:30 with dinner following the first section, and on 29/APR/09 we will be hosting a MI Child ID Program at Taylor Parks School. Come and join us for one, two, or all of these events.

Our Web-site is updated monthly, if not more often, and is loaded with Masonic information. If you missed a copy of our trestleboard, or even if you just want to re-read a past issue, we have quite a few back issues available on the site.  Be sure to visit when you are able, and don’t forget to sign our guestbook and leave us some feedback. I will always read and consider all comments and suggestions. If you have some ideas, please pass them along. Since we are speaking about the web, those of you interested in receiving only an electronic copy of this newsletter, please send me an e-mail, javajohns@wideopenwest.com , so that I can make sure that this happens.

Our Thursday Masonic Education classes are still going strong. We not only discuss each degree and what Masonry means, we also practice ritual work. We meet at 7:00 pm almost every Thursday. Come join us when you are able. We are always happy to enjoy the fellowship of another Brother.

Until Next month – stay on the Level, and live by the Square

salutations from the SOUTH

Greetings Brothers,

Secretary Scribbles

Brothers, Family, and Friends,

This year, like many others, is off to a good start. With that being said, like in past years, your dues are due and 85 Brothers still have not paid there 2009 dues. Brothers I know this is a hard time for everyone including your lodge. The 3rd notice is due to go out this month (March), so please get your payment in as soon as possible and help save your lodge some money in postage, ink, envelopes and paper.

This is the oldest and best fraternity in the world; therefore we must fight to preserve the integrity and strength of this noble institution, starting with OUR own lodge. We are a team striving to obtain the same goal and WE as a TEAM should never lose sight of that goal.

Until next month,

WB William Clawson, PM

New Boy Scout Troop in Taylor –

Golden Ark Lodge 595 is proud to announce that we have chartered a new Boy Scout Troop here in Taylor. Boy Scout Troop 818 will originally be made up of the 14 boys that have “crossed over” from Cub Scout Pack 818. Freemasonry and Scouting share many core ideals and beliefs, so this has been a natural fit for both organizations. To commemorate this event, the Lodge purchased, and presented to each of the boys, a new copy of the Boy Scout Handbook to help them in their Scouting career.

Freemasonry's relationship with the Boy Scouts started with a Freemason named Daniel Carter Beard. Br. Beard was made a Mason in New York City, NY. In the late 1800's he founded a male youth program called the "Society of the Sons of Daniel Boone." By 1905, the program had become "The Boy Pioneers." The man who would create the first "Boy Scouts," and be known as its founder, was Lord Robert Baden-Powell of Great Britain. Lord Baden-Powell, who was not a Mason, read of Beard's program and, based on his own military experience, developed what is known as the "Boy Scouts." In 1910, the Boy Scout program came to America when Br. Beard merged his organization into the "Boy Scouts of America" and became its first National Commissioner.
